Trying to get the site ready

Long time readers will remember some of our painful server crashes. It’s not a lot of fun for you, for me, for the hosting company, for anybody.

In regards to the MSNBC Countdown story, I’m trying to do a little better job managing any extra traffic and I wanted to give you guys a head’s up. The most script-intensive parts of the site may be shut down to prevent a crash. That might mean no poll, no comments and no telemetry. But if that happens, I’ll get things back up as soon as I can, which will probably be Saturday.

Super exciting! Good luck. I’m having a friend Tivo the show for me as we have no cable either.

Try to keep the telemetry up if you can, that IS your site… and it is what new people coming from MSNBC will be coming to see. The comments and poll can be for another day…

What an adorable picture! I’ve been reading for the past few weeks since I saw the URL in Parent magazine. I’m from NC, but now live in FL where my husband is in the Air Force. Your pictures certainly make me miss home! My Ethan is 22 months old. Is Trixie a regular thumb-sucker like in the picture? Ethan loves his, and curls his index finger around his nose also, but will only suck his left thumb. He does everything else with his right hand. Because she is sucking her right thumb, do you see her doing mostly everything else with her left hand-future leftie?

Boy what a lot of work you must have to do to get the site ready. Its not all fun and fame is it. I noticed the terrible spam your getting in old comments, that sucks!

Anyway, good luck with everything. I’m hoping to get to watch the segment but my fiance HAS TO WATCH stargate, its a new season ya know. I’ll fight it cuz I have to see Trixie. It’s really weird but I’m hoping other fans feel this way, I am a total stranger but I feel like you guys are friends, I guess cuz I know way too much about you all to be strangers. But I wish you all the luck!

I’m the youngest sibling and I’m the only one that plans on having kids someday, its kinda sad there are no little babies in my family so I kinda see Trixie as the neice I wish I had. I just want a lil one to play with, not do all that other parenty stuff, so this works perfect!

Also I noticed you are buying her lots of cool hats! I’m totally jealous! Trixie is the coolest toddler I know!

I think the site will be in pretty good shape. I made a change to the way Telemetry is rendered late last night (I was up until 1:30am!). Don’t tell anyone, but there’s now a 3 minute delay to all telemetry data. Sadly it’s no longer truly real-time. But this 3 minute delay takes a HUGE load off the server, so I had to do it.
