She’s still so tiny, and the logistics of trying to bath her are confounding, but Trixie’s hair smelled really bad so her first hair-washing was deemed necessary. We stuck her in the giant blow-up duck beside the kitchen sink and started pouring warm water all over her. No major complaints from the kid, although she did get the hiccups halfway through.
The only real concern is that her head smells like we dipped her in a giant vat of chemicals. We used Johnson & Johnson’s baby shampoo and we used the pea sized amount, but it still smells strong. I think it bothers me more than it bothers her.

After yet another strategically timed expulsion during a diaper changing, and with umbilical stump no more, we decided to try to give Trixie a little bath. Not a full immersion, but more of a piecemeal operation where we would suspend her in the kitchen sink, hold each extremity under running water and then rotate around to the next one. She didn’t mind the water one bit, and for the moment is as clean as she’s been since we got her home. We expect this state to last for about 2 hours.

Trixie just lost her umbilical cord. Pretty gross — a wadded up stiff, little clot of dried blood, tissue and plastic clamp. It’s actually almost exactly the same size, texture and color of a raisin. But not the plump, juicy, golden Dole variety. A dried, bottom of the can, back of the pantry, Harris Teeter brand reject.
We are very proud of her; she is now a big girl and 100% organic without any embedded plastic. But it’s kind of sad also because now that she has a belly button and no more cord stump, it’s virtually impossible to distinguish her from an adult.
