Have teeth, will brush
It looks like Trixie is going to town here brushing her teeth, but photos can be deceiving. What she's really doing is sucking all the water out of the bristles. Then she sticks it back under the water a couple dozen times.Photo taken August 19th, 2004. | |

Jackson (8 months) got a hold of a toothbrush which is now his. We have not introduced it to water yet, but he loves to bite on both ends. Posted by: Erika at August 20, 2004 08:08 AM

I am so addicted to your site. I log on every morning to see what Trixie is doing next. She is such a cutie. We have a 19 month old, and she's busy as can be. We've been brushing her teeth with a jr. sized toothbrush since she was about 10 months old. She loves to clamp down on it and bite it when we attempt to brush. I'm afraid Ms. Trixie may do the same!!! Posted by: Deanna at August 20, 2004 08:46 AM

Teaching them to brush their teeth is always an interesting process. When I worked as a nanny, I had one way of getting them to open up for the toothbrush, and the parents had a different method! I would make faces, particularly when they were being stubborn, and show them how I wanted them to open their mouths. "Say AAAAHHHH! (brush brush) Now EEEEEE! (brush brush) Now stick out your tongue! (brush brush)" But, hey, whatever works. Posted by: Kelli at August 20, 2004 02:41 PM

Getting my kids teeth brushed properly is always like a wrestling match! But my 4 year old is getting good at it.... brushing up and down ...front and back....but I "bribe" them with a vitamin at night, they think its a treat. They dont alwazys get it perfect and neither do I if I help, and I worry is it enough?? Posted by: marjie at August 21, 2004 08:53 PM

i taught callie to brush her teeth the same way! EEEEEEEEE and the AAAAHHHH. worked like a charm and she still, at almost 5 years old, thinks it is very funny to make those noises. she will call me out if i don't "EEEE and AAAHH" too. Posted by: jennifer at August 23, 2004 02:37 PM

aiden is now 8 months and we just got his first toothbrush, so i sure do appriciate these tips. he seems to think that he needs to help though, so i end up having to brush his teeth with my hand over his on the handle. ah well...lets just hope he shows the same interest when he is 6..lol Posted by: at August 23, 2004 09:15 PM
