Carbonation
Trixie discovering the tingles of CO2. In frames 1-4 we see Trixie getting a small sip of plain seltzer followed by confusion and mild dislike. Undeterred, she goes back for more in frame 5. Despite her visceral reaction, she is actually considering another drink in the last frame, and -- believe it or not -- this cycle went on for a while.Photo taken September 11th, 2004. | |

From what I've seen, this isn't that unusual. A friend's child keep going for his mother's soda because he was obsessed with the straw. The same thing happened; he tasted it, made a horrible face, then kept trying for it. I loved the sequence of shots you have here though. Posted by: Becca at September 13, 2004 12:13 AM

This is absolutely hilarious. I wonder if that's why I won't drink sodas to this day - I hate the carbonation. I envision my parents going thru this when I was Trixie's age. Great pictures! Posted by: Jaynee at September 13, 2004 10:52 AM

Too funny! Don't worry, Trixie, I can't stand plain seltzer either! I love those expressions. Posted by: Kelli at September 13, 2004 12:41 PM

My ex's 3 yr old nephew would go through this same drama while eating our salt and vinegar potato chips. He'd eat a chip then squeeze his little eyes shut and make a grimace and pucker his mouth. But then as soon as you'd think your chips were safe, he'd be reaching out his hand and saying "want 'nother." Posted by: Lindsay at September 13, 2004 05:54 PM

It's interesting to see that Trixie isn't alone in this kind of behavior. Always glad to hear that she's not crazy. The CCTV effect is from the movie mode (which is very low-quality) on the still camera. Posted by: benmac at September 13, 2004 06:26 PM

This is one of my all time TTU favorites. Love the Wal-Mart-dressing-room-surveillance look and, of course, the hilarious progression of events. How about a flip-book, benmac? It's so perfect for one. Posted by: hannah at February 2, 2005 11:37 AM

This is classic and beautiful (i just revisited it after your pic on 2/2)--we've just started my daughter on solids, and we love the faces of disgust that so quickly turn into the kind of hope and excitment of frames 1 and 5 and then right back to disgust, etc. Though we do wish she would eat more of her solids...
