Keeping it real
I've posted various TPODs where the apartment appears clean and organized. But everyone knows that's not what it really looks like when you have a toddler in the house.Photo taken October 26th, 2004. | |

Bless you, Ben. And bless Trixie, too. It's wonderful to know that we're not alone in toddler chaos. Posted by: Maddie's Mom at November 11, 2004 12:36 AM

Trixie looks like she's sitting at her throne - queen of the chaos and lovinng her mess. Now that I've seen this, you all might get invited over more often - we won't feel that we have to clean up as much to pretend we're clean. Posted by: hannah at November 11, 2004 09:57 AM

Ha, finally! A glimpse "behind the scenes." I've been wondering if my son was the only one pulling everything out of boxes and drawers in rapid succession and then just dropping it all on the floor...there is no way I can keep up clearing all the clutter when he is "at work" so I do it during naptime, just so he can pull everything out again when he is up. The ratio of his vs my activity is about 1 min. vs 10 min. Posted by: tj at November 11, 2004 11:28 AM

Holy crap! The sad thing is, my house looks like this, and I have no kids to blame. Posted by: Lindsay at November 11, 2004 12:23 PM

The fact that babies are slobs is evolutionary proof that adults were never meant to be otherwise. Organization is not what's important: exploration is. (It is NOT proof, as some would have it, that we are just big babies.) Posted by: schaff at November 11, 2004 04:23 PM

so trixie's just sitting there, eating lunch, reading a magazine, ignoring the mess... seriously, when is that kid going to learn to pull her own weight around here? Posted by: rachel at November 11, 2004 05:05 PM

I love this picture! I am happy to see we aren't the only ones with toys taking care over the living room. Our son (20 months) can do that kind of damage in about 10 minutes. LOL Posted by: Cindy at November 11, 2004 09:35 PM

And the uninitiated wonder why parents of young children are always tired. I had two 14 months apart--try keeping up with that! The important thing is that Trixie's obviously happy. P.S. Nice try, Schaff, but it's not working. LOL Posted by: Rae at November 11, 2004 10:36 PM

Hurray! I love this picture. I have a 19 month old daughter. Being a stay at home Mom, I put pressure on myself to keep the house straightened. I fail! My daughter, Keelyn is into everything, which I know is healthy. But when someone unexpectly knocks on the door, I want to hide. LOL And the haircut - I still have not cut my daughter's hair. I've thought about it, but that is a far as it went. And, when she does need a trim, I'm going to leave it up to the professionals. Posted by: Lynn at November 12, 2004 08:31 AM

Oh thank you! Oh thank you! I've never felt so HAPPY that someone else's house looks JUST LIKE MINE!! I would LOVE to walk across my living room without having to hop, skip, and jump over little things. And sitting on the couch without having a toy squeak, bleep, or buzz from under me would be so WONDERFUL. I'm not asking for much, am I? Ha. Posted by: rubber-sol at November 12, 2004 01:21 PM

This reminds me of a New Yorker cartoon from August: "Everyone says she has the clutter of someone twice her age." Posted by: Leslie at November 12, 2004 04:20 PM

That is an AWESOME picture and makes me feel a bit like Mommie Dearest - our house is pretty clean (it has to be spotless every Wednesday night so from Wed - Saturday morning it's pretty decent). But BEFORE we had people coming over every Wednesday night our living room was just like yours (and our guests need never know that Olivia/Duncan's room is EXACTLY like yours!) I love this! My house looks just the same! My kids just changed the nature of the mess, but only slighly increased the quantity... Posted by: Sara at November 21, 2004 12:39 PM

Entropy: the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity. I learned in high school that the concept of entropy means that cleaning my bedroom actually displaces and therefore "wastes" energy that is within the universe...so I guess if you wait long enough, everything will find its way back to where it belongs! I have an 8 week old...and so far my house has stayed pretty neat...but I know that'll change, thanks for preparing me! Posted by: Valerie at April 29, 2005 12:27 AM
