Love that technology - I can pose for a TPOD, talk to both Grammas, and watch Dora the Explorer all at the same time! Posted by: Rae at January 14, 2005 12:22 AM

A sign of things to come... "Uh-huh. And then what did he say? What?! Ohmygod! No way! Oh, hold on - I've got Jessica calling on the other phone..." "Hey Jess! I'm just chatting with Bonnie on the other phone! You'll never believe what Jacob just said to- what? NO WAY!!" Posted by: Laura at January 14, 2005 12:49 AM

Is Trixie interested about phones - cell phones in particular. If so, what tactics do you use not to let her get to the phone or if she gets a hold of it how do you get it away from her. IMO, there should be a separate electronic gizmo line for toddlers. Our girls love the cell phone and they always fight for it. Posted by: twinsdad at January 14, 2005 09:46 AM

Not a caption, but a warning...Maddie *loves* all phones. She tossed mine into the dog's water dish. My *new* cell phone. The one that took pictures. The one that had to be replaced. :-) Posted by: Maddie's Mom at January 14, 2005 10:19 AM

hannah stole my idea.... Now I can't think of a caption! heehee, except that this is what will happen if you ever put your phone number online. Poor girl, posing for pics was hard enough but talking to adoring fans on the phone. Sheesh....don't do it! Posted by: Nina at January 14, 2005 12:17 PM

ok I thought of a better caption.... Here it is... The Trixie Party Line. After such great success with the website, Ben decided to cash in on the idea by creating a partyline where fans would pay to hear about trixie's day. "Ga ba doo da ba ga" Which means "Today I pooped all over the carpet" Thanks for humoring me, now I can stop thinking about it. Posted by: nina at January 14, 2005 12:47 PM

Jennifer: Sorry I did not realize you already posted this caption; I either missed it or it subconsciously gave me the great idea. I think Trixie would be a great "test girl" for Verizon. In the meantime, get well wishes to Trixie for her bug and to her parents for the sleep deprivation it has undoubtedly brought. Posted by: Leslie at January 14, 2005 05:16 PM

There’s an article in the Personal Section of yesterday’s (01-13-2005) Wall Street Journal (I’m just catching up on my reading) about cell phone use among children ages 3-14 and the ongoing debate over concern for safety of mobile-communications devices. I don’t want to go into any kind of debate here, but thought some parents might find it interesting. Personally, I find it funny…I don’t think I ever really used a phone (the old fashion landline kind, of course) until I *was* about 14! Laughed at the following: “…making cell phones available to children ages 3 to 8 was ‘unjustified.’…children between the ages of 9 & 14 should place only brief calls on mobile handsets to limit exposure to radiation, out of concern that young people’s brains are still developing.” It goes on to say there’s no real research linking cell phone use with the effects on health (whew!), but advised that children should be discouraged from excessive use of mobile phones. I’m sure Trixie’s call (to Colum???) was short & sweet! (Or this explains all the oozzing from her face.) Hope she’s feeling much better today. You, too, Ben. My 13-month-old son also enjoys the cell phone, only mine, not the old one with no battery that's for him. I let him play with it on occasions that I really need to prevent a fuss. The other day, I was packing up to leave a friend's house. He quickly reached into my backpack and grabbed the phone. At that point it was easier to let him play with it for a while than risk wrestling him for it. After a few minutes, I hear a "hello?" from the phone. No lie: he'd managed to connect to his grandparents in San Diego. I was reminded of the cliche that given infinite time in front of a keyboard, a infinite chimps could recreate the works of Shakespeare. Posted by: MT at January 14, 2005 08:16 PM

In regards to the cellphone use of young children, My 4 year old uses my phone to talk to people when I make calls. Most people I know use their phones for long distance calls rather than their standard line. That would lead me to believe that that is when these children 3-8 are using the phones. I don't know about anyone else's kids but mine never has more than a few minutes interest in talking to anyone on the phone! In regards to the picture, my son is actually one of the kids who is happy with an old cell phone to play with. We found a huge one when we moved and he loves it! It looks nothing like any other cell phone he has ever seen, but he still carried it around in his backpack for ages! Posted by: Kerri at January 14, 2005 10:04 PM

John: Is that really a coincidence!? That's pretty crazy and funny as hell. As far as Trixie playing with the cell phone, she's allowed to as long as she doesn't press any buttons. If she does, we take it away and she hollers. Posted by: benmac at January 16, 2005 07:31 PM

Ben: That was a real coincidence. We finally bought new phones after all these months (we've been wanting ones that allow us to turn off all ringers) and so I've been letting Colum play with the old handsets. Colum's photo was taken on the 13th, some 12 days after Trixie's was, but you didn't post it until the 14th. Do your cellphones have "Lock keys" options? Posted by: John at January 17, 2005 03:33 PM
