After I got over the intitial horror and dread I experienced when I saw that creepy goldfish in the thumbnail, this picture made my day. What a happy fish she is (Trixie, of course, not that other instrument of torture that unfortunately appears).

And where does one purchase such a realistic looking goldfish? It's so great to see such a gleeful picture after the sickie ones.

And beware the canines. Maddie is working on her last one and it has been the worst of all the teeth...even the molars.

Awww, Trixie looks happier than ever in this picture! Made me smile almost as big. She always seems to enjoy bath time - maybe she's part fish??? Is that the trick? Put them in a tub of water and voila they'll cheer up?

So do you have to spell B-A-T-H yet instead of saying it outloud? We don't mention this word in our home unless we can follow through within minutes. However, I love seeing him in the tub - any water for that matter joy at its most uninhibited. Until I finally say: "Time to tell water bye bye"
"No no no no no no...."

Does the goldfish have a name????

There's a poster titled "How to love a child" that has all of these ideas on it, and one of them is "If they're cranky, put them in water." That said, the 2-year-old little boy I babysit hates his bath. When you say "time for bath" he gets upset and says, "No no no..." The reason? He hates having his hair washed (actually enjoys the rest!). His mom hasn't had any better luck than I have with keeping him from screaming while you're washing/rinsing his hair - any ideas from those of you with water babies?

Hi Kelli,

I have an idea... why not wash his hair (over the sink) and the rest of him (bath) separately. That way, he won't identify one with the other. Even if you do it at different times of the day - hair washing after his afternoon nap, bath after dinner - for instance. Also, if you wash his hair over the sink, maybe you can let him hold something special that he can only hold during that time. What does he hate about washing his hair? I've seen this plastic visor that people use when their children don't like the water running down their faces. Also, I've never used this product before, but I have girls with long hair - especially if this little boy has short hair, maybe you could try this stuff called "dry wash" you apply it to the hair and scalp and don't have to rinse - not sure about it, but also might be worth giving it a try. Good luck.

I do have one practical suggestion (considering the rest of the site can be a little abstract.) We bought one of those Dial foam soap dispensers a while back to try it out. I thought the thing was a waste and threw it away when we were done -- but, as an afterthought I put a few squirts of baby shampoo in there to see if it would work.

Now we have an awesome baby soap foamer. Trixie loves it (also makes washing her hair more fun). An unexpected benefit is that the baby shampoo lasts like 10 times longer (which makes you realize what a killing Dial was making.) Might be worth a try.

we do the same thing for eliot with the foamer, that way he can pump as much soap out as he pleases and its still only a miniscule amount from the bottle. yeah, note to consumers, those foamers are a total rip off!

Why are foamers a waste? I understand the practical nature for a kid (ie. fun, saves soap etc.) but why is not practical for an adult? Price. Can't say I ever bought one.

Ben, with all the interest, I think there's a niche market for scary-goldfish blogs. Just a thought.

I can't remember when I was THAT happy!

I was a water baby growing up, I think it has something to do with being born in the summer. I was born in july and I couldn't have been more than 2 months and my parents put me in the pool. So taking baths was basically playing in a small pool for me. I'd play for like an hour then my mom would do the washing part....maybe it wasn't an hour, what kid has sence of time?

Looking at trixie makes me want to take a bath right now. SOO FUN! YAY!!

Just wanted to add this, I use to get in trouble when I started taking baths alone because I'd slide off the back of the tub splashing water all over the floor, the whole bathroom was a puddle.

Just curious if Trixie splashes like crazy and if you have to mop up afterwards?

I'm with Fred. I love Trixie's gleeful, joyous expression - it makes my ovaries all twingy. But it didn't take two seconds for that creepy little goldfish to draw my eye over... Where is it headed? What's it looking at? How does it stay afloat? Why isn't it flopped over on its belly? Does it have any creepy companions?

Since I'm guessing it must be a well-used toy, how about a Goldfish POD? I mean, surely Mr. Creepy has made his way into a cereal bowl, or has been lodged in between the couch cushion. I'll bet it has also broken skin on the bottom of your bare foot at some point...

Annie: We know of at least one disturbing place that Mr. Creepy has been, but the cereal bowl would be a kick, too! (See December 14, 2004 TPOD.)
