Trixie and a couple of flowers
You try to get the shot a couple of times. One where she's smiling, or in profile or even in focus. But after a while you just have to give up because basically you're this guy sneaking around the other side of the rose bushes, stalking the kids. This shot will have to do.

I STILL wear my hair like that. :) When I was growing up, my parents called it "goat tails." Posted by: Ariel at May 19, 2005 12:27 AM

I remember wearing pigtails too, but mine were SOOOO tight! My mom was one of those hard brushers. I think the "loose" look like Trixie has here is so much cuter, like she's been so busy running around that her hair can't keep up with her. I wish we had some sort of botanical garden here, I bet she loves seeing all the flowers and insects! Posted by: Valerie at May 19, 2005 12:30 AM

Yeah, there's nothing like that feeling of being a stalker with a camera! My poor boys are used to it by now (well, one of them is - the other isn't old enough to know yet). I should have a t-shirt that reads, "Crazy Mom....have camera, will stalk" and maybe people won't look at me QUITE as strangely! Posted by: Judy at May 19, 2005 06:42 AM

I feel your pain. My 2 yr old will be posed perfectly ... UNTIL I get the camera out, then she's running and twisting and jumping all over the place, I'm lucky if I can get her in the frame, forget about actually being in focus. But you take a thousand pictures, you're bound to get a few good ones. Posted by: Nadine at May 19, 2005 08:00 AM

The picture is perfect. It captures the Trixie essence by showing that she is what she is: an active toddler who won't sit still for a moment. Posted by: samantha at May 19, 2005 09:58 AM

Ben -- have you ever read "The Little Prince" by A. Saint-Exupéry? It's a wonderful story that includes a scene very similar to today's photo -- the Little Prince discovers that his rose (from his planet) is not unique when he finds a beautiful rose garden on Earth. I taught French and adore this story in either language! Trixie might like it too in a few years. Posted by: Steph at May 19, 2005 12:05 PM

Steph - How ironic, I was just thinking of that very book (no kidding!) the other day. I love "The Little Prince!" That was such a great book. Read it in 5th grade. Loved it so much bought the book at the school book fair (I still have it). It's a wonderful story and I think Trixie and family would enjoy it, too. Posted by: lori at May 19, 2005 02:31 PM

Steph: I read that a long time ago, but I barely remember it. Sounds like I should look it up again. Thanks! Posted by: benmac at May 19, 2005 08:51 PM

Valerie- My mom was a hard brusher too. She use to comb my ears!! She never was good at putting my hair up I guess because I'd cry. What is with that?? to this day when I babysit and have to comb a little girls hair I'm so afraid of hurting her. She use to hurt when she washed my hair too... I think thats why my hair is falling out.....eek! Posted by: Nina at May 20, 2005 06:29 PM
