I also am curious: to what tunes does Trixie listen? If it's the Wiggles, just ignore this question, or lie to me.

I'm not sure what Jenn has in her ipod. I can only guess Enya or Enya recorded live.

As far as what Trixie requests, it's No! by They Might be Giants. It plays on a non-stop loop in the car.

oh, god. it was definitely not enya. (ben, you're in big trouble!)

So all your singing of Enya songs to Jen while she was pregnant made her a fan, huh? It looks like you only have yourself to blame for that, Benmac!

We like They Might be Giants, too, but we sing "Boss of me" (the theme song to Malcolm in the Middle) to our kid all the time.

You're not the boss of me now and you're not so big.....

And Hannah, I wish someone would have lied to me about the [expletive deleted] Wiggles. I want to stab them with a feathersword.....

Michele: You're good! For the rest of you, here's the Enya reference Michelle was talking about.

Is he sleeping outside?
Where's Jeff...
Did he go for a ride???
AGGGGGG!!!! Funny Story...my husband was playing golf one day with some guys he barely knew...he was humming, "toot toot chugga chugga..." (he says he was really unaware he was even humming that) and another guy started singing it outloud!!
Guess that what happens when you got a bunch of two yeat olds running around!

Jen,
No need to feel ashamed or try to cover up. We all have our guilty little pleasures - mine is Neil Diamond, yours happens to be Enya. It's okay (as long as it's not Nickleback, that is).

Beautiful shot. Hannah...how is Neil Diamond's new cd? It got great reviews, but I've never been a big fan.

Maddie loves "No!" too...but her current favorite is Laurie Berkner's new CD. "Bees" or something like that.

With the way the picture was taken - exposure and all - it looks like that iPod is vibrating her right out of the seat!

I was personally hoping for a rousing verse of some Raffi.

Try Ralph's World as an alternative to "No!" My girls love the songs on his "The Bottom of the Sea" CD.

We used to let my oldest listen to The Ramones through headphones when she was just a bit younger than Trixie is now. She'd start yelling "mones! mones!" in the car if a song came on the radio.

I love it that other kids like the tunes their 30ish parents grew up with. In our household, my husband stays home, and has introduced our 2.5 yo daughter to Ozzy. Having been more of a Duranie (sp?) than a metal-head, I roll my eyes, but I'm glad he's introducing her to music other than children's songs.

Hello! I'm New to your site. Not really sure how I came across it but.......I'm sure glad I did. Your daughter is absolutely beautiful. I LOVE the "eating popsicles" in the tub photo! LOVE IT LOVE IT...
Oh and the one where she has all her books laid out on the floor! Oh and the one where....well, you can tell, I've seen your entire site. LOVE it! -Tanyetta from California!

Considering that looks like dusk in the background, I hope Trixie's not going to daycare.

For They might be giants fans who have not been introduced to homestarrunner. The band worked with the creaters of this awesome flash site and made this lil video. Sorry for advertising a different site on your site but I really think Trixie should be shown some Homestar cartoons, it may be a little old for her but I think she'd still like it, especially the homestar vs. little girl clips. (theres puppets and a live action little girl in that one!) Enjoy!

I love "They Might be Giants"!!!! Although I'm only familiar with their No! CD. Yeah, I'm 15 and I love that group. The Violin song's prettty spiffy. Glad I'm not the only one in the world that loves that CD. And Homestarrunner! I love that site too! Me and my friends always visit it while at school and quote the toons.

Back in December, I made an iMix in the iTunes Music store with songs from Colum's playlist. TMBG is there, of course.

John Lithgow's music doesn't show up in iTunes, which is too bad; Singing In The Bathtub is awesome.

Can't you people let your kids be kids! What's with creating little mini-hipsters. There's a little too much of the PCS (Precious Child Syndrome) going on here. Tedious.

I think being able to enjoy listening to (and making!) music with your kids is really important and fun, so why not add some fun stuff to the mix that might not be sold in the kids' section? We don't all have to enjoy the Wiggles! I loved classical and 'marching' songs when I was a kid too - along with Sesame Street Sings. The more variety the better! Up with TMBG!!

And what's with all the haters on TTU today? Geez.

FYI, madge, Colum likes the songs he likes. I haven't ever tried to "make" him like certain songs. I'm often surprised by his interests. But, on the other hand, my general rule for purchasing or playing children's music is that I have to be willing to listen to a given song a thousand times if I'm going to listen to it once, because if Colum does like it, it'll get requested over and over and over. So knowing about children's music that is actually appealing to my adult mind as well as Colum's mind is useful, important knowledge ). And, knowing what to steer away from (for us it includes the Wiggles, Raffi, most Disney soundtracks made after the 1970s) is helpful too.
And, also, there's nothing wrong with giving children exposure to different kinds of music -- Colum loves all sorts of music, and likes to play music, and I rather think one of my roles as a parent is to give him cultural literacy. That includes music, "hip" and otherwise.
