I prefer "pensive" or "contemplative." She's deep, this one. Posted by: ShotgunDaddy at January 23, 2006 12:47 AM

Ben, do you shoot automatic or manual settings? I'm just getting into the manual settings on my camera and am trying to learn more, especially by viewing other people's work. I like the contrast in this one. Did you photoshop it any to get the contrast here, or shoot it like that? Thanks! Posted by: Melissa at January 23, 2006 12:52 AM

In shots like these you can get a sense of what Trixie is going to look like as a young woman. She's stunning. Posted by: Kate at January 23, 2006 01:45 AM

I'm not sure what impresses me more about today's TPOD: The satellite overhead of the location, or the fact that you haven't had a TPOD from your home in the last two weeks. Posted by: Rob at January 23, 2006 06:50 AM

I agree,,,"gloomy" describes the last few tpods...she looks SO much older here, like 6 or 7! Posted by: 2 girl mama at January 23, 2006 10:38 AM

Melissa: I normally use manual settings, but B/W shots typically need help in Photoshop. This is because most consumer grade digital camera sensors (including mine) can't capture the full dynamic range of values (especially shadow detail). I use this recipe to improve my B/W shots. If you don't have Photoshop, it's basically a more sophisticated version of adjusting the brightness/contrast. Hope that helps, and good luck. Posted by: benmac at January 23, 2006 11:33 AM

Oh my goodness, Ben, that shot is absolutely amazing. I think it is my favorite artistic TPOD. And Trixie is positively stunning. Posted by: Aubrey at January 24, 2006 12:08 PM
