We've never cut Trixie's hair, but I think it's about time. On occasion Trixie claims she wants her hair cut like mine (i.e. with the clippers set at 1/8"). I'm hoping to talk her into just trimming the dead ends.
Photo taken May 23rd, 2006.
Age: 33 months.

Wow, you haven't even trimmed the ends? I had beautiful hair like Trixie's as a kid, and when I was 5 my mom cut it into a pixie cut. My sister proceeded to tell me I looked like a boy. It still traumatizes me to this day. And my aunt would always tell me that she was going to steal my hair and put it on her head...and I really thought she was going to come in one night and shave my head. People spend a lot of money trying to copy Trixie's natural beauty.....believe me, you don't want to traumatize her any more!

Continue to let it grow and when it's really long, have them cut 8" off and donate it to "Locks of Love". Our daughter just did that. What a wonderful feeling it is. It may take a while to grow, but there's a lot to do with a little ones hair while growning. Just pull it back!!! She does have pretty hair. Still see that red there, too.

I also keep my hair short, using clippers without the guard about every three weeks, but I've been able to get away with that on my son only once. I thought he looked pretty cool, but everyone else that mattered -- my wife, mother, and mother-in-law -- all hated it. If I were brave (or stupid, depending on how you look at it), I'd do it again this summer. Then again, maybe I won't.

Whatever you do to her hair, she will be beautiful! I do like the way her hair falls, though, especially in this picture. She has a lot of body in her hair - something I desperately wish I had!

My mother has been pestering me to cut my almost 2 year old daughter's hair. My husband and I want to let it grow. I am so showing my mother this picture, and maybe she will shut up!

I love this photo. Her expression seems older than she is. But she still looks so young. Probably one of my favorite TPOD too.

My mom had my hair cut like Dorethy Hamil when I was 5. I had had long, curly hair that made great pony tails and I was quite upset. I hated my haircut so badly that I would wear a hat or hood at all times! I have a traumatic memory of my teacher forcing me to take off my hat because they were not allowed in school, I cried in front of the whole class.

So contemplative...do you ever ask her what she is thinking? Or, what is she seeing in her mind? Just curious. If her hair doesn't bother her, why bother her? She will let you know when she wants it cut....she'll come out from her bedroom some day with bangs above her forehead and, well, you get the picture. I'm sure we'll see it. You're a good Daddy, Ben. I'm sure Jen is a good Mommy, too.

I won't tell you to cut or not cut, because, like others have already said, Trixie will be beautiful no matter what you do. (Even if she gets the same hair cut as Daddy.) But, if you are considering donating her hair, there are Locks of Love type organizations that take less than 10 inches. (And LoL isn't that picky, they'll take shorter than 10, they just prefer more.)

I love her hair. My opinion....DO NOT CUT, until the day comes when she wants you to.

We've cut Olivia's hair a couple times - once when she was an infant so that we could show her how red her hair was a birth (it was a beautiful dark red). Then when her hair really started to grow we cut her some bangs. The bangs are all we cut now.

Yes, her hair is gorgeous. But I wanted--and had--long hair as a girl and remember vividly the pain of having my mom get out all the knots. So you might want to cut it while she'll let you to save both of you headaches, literally for her.
