Miso the Destroyer
That kitten has become a holy terror. I've never seen a cat spend so much time on its back two legs in an attack position. She clomps around the house, a miniature T-rex looking for shins to destroy.

Shortly after this picture was taken Miso lunged at an unaware Trixie. As a result, she got accidentally stepped on because Trixie had no idea a cat was upon her. Miso then promptly dragged her claws across Trixie's legs. I saw the whole thing happen, and that cat was completely at fault. We got her patched up, and I'm hoping that Miso learned a lesson about ambushing little kids.

I remember when my sister was Trixie's age. We had a cat, and though my sister loved her dearly, she was always criss-crossed with scratches. Kittens and toddlers are a volatile mix, there's no way around it.

OUCH! Kitties always have lots of lessons to learn.

Must be Thursday - black and white! Thanks!

When I look at this picture I can't help hearing in my head that music that played in that one old episode of Star Trek where Kirk and Spock dueled in a Vulcan arena.

Most cats mellow out as they get older, and they get used to children, and vice versa. One of our cats (approximately 8 years old) is our daughter's "plaything." So long as there are no tight squeezes and no pulling, anything goes with kitty, and our daughter learns the limits. Fortunately, our kitty seems to know what response is appropriate - when playing gets too rough she might hit our daughter with claws retracted and once or twice she has mouthed her (without using her teeth), but has never left a mark!

I hope Miso grows out of this trait - my old cat never did. She used to hide in the hallway of my apartment at night so that she could lunge at me when I got up to go to the bathroom in the dark. The same went for hiding under the table to attack as I went by. She seemed to only bite the hand that fed her, though - she was afraid of and hid from everyone else. Lucky me! Good luck, Trixie!!

I had a cat when I was younger that I named Cujo :) When he was a kitten he'd perch on my nightstand in the attack position (crouched down, rear end wiggling) and whenever I would turn over in my sleep, he'd pounce on my head. And then he'd hop back on the nightstand and do it all over again. So I had all these little scratches on my face and my coworkers named him Cujo :) Luckily, I worked at a vet hospital so they all understood I wasn't being horribly abused at home! Anyway, when he got to be about 6 months old we neutered him and he was a cuddly sweetheart forever more...
